I think that in a typical traditional American celebration, people who dress in costume are the execption, not the rule. This is not the case with Oktoberfest. Everyone had lederhosen and dirndl. EVERYONE. On top of that, there were at least 8 different brass bands in costume that marched into the tents for the opening celebration.

Tim and I got a Maβ of Beer (1L) and watched some of the festivities in the Paulaner Tent. Later we went to the Hofbraeu Tent and wittnessed the dancing on tables and drinking songs that you have always heard about, but thought were fake.
And then we ate some currywurst. This party goes until Oktober, so there will probably be some more updates!
