On our first whole day in Germany, we trekked through the city. We hiked up and down streets, walked this way, wandered that way, and hoofed through alleys and plazas. We stopped walking to eat wurst-salat and wienersnitzel mit pommes, and we were joined by Uli, who turned out to be a very friendly socialist. Later, we ambled through the city some more. Walk walk. We purchased month-long passes at the Bahnhof, and with our new ticket to city transportation in-hand, we approached a bus stop and waited.
The bus didn't come.
Thinking we missed it, we kept walking. Walk walk. We found another stop, but it was the same story.
Walk walk walk.
We arrived at yet another stop, and since, by that time, we had 1000 lbs of purchases to carry, we decided to wait. We waited, but only the wrong buses passed. Not only that, but they were completely packed. People kept trying to get on, but no one was getting off. Wait. Wait. Wait some more. Check the schedule again. Be confused about why the bus isn't coming. Wait. Wait. Frustrated, we trudged the mile home with all the stuff. Apparently, today was the day the bus drivers decided to strike, and only 2 lines were running. Later, we strolled out again, only to get stuck in a drizzle that turned into rain, that turned into a monsoon-lightning storm. And, since there was a bus driver strike, there were no buses.
Yummy Wurstsalad and Wiener Schnitzel!
